Group coordination

  • Set the timelines, goals and project deadlines for each of our project teams.

Personnel
  • Ensure that all teams are staffed and working together.   
  • Recruit team members 

After presenting the roles and responsibilities for each team, we asked students to pick two teams that they would like to work on.  From this wishlist, we were able to create teams and make sure that all teams had at least two people.

School Announcements were our main recruitment drive - but the teachers involved in the project did their own recruitment. 

 
Budget & Procurement

Our original budget estimate was $900 CDN.  However, almost all costs were much higher than we were advised and the costs of material and equipment ended up being approximately $2000.  A very kind donation of helium by Air Liquide saved us close to $500.  Fundraising efforts were successful in obtaining a donation of $500 from Magellan Aerospace and an school auction and popcorn sales netted us almost $250
Team communications
  • Set regular all- group meetings 
  • Keep the team informed of news, changes.
Twice weekly we met as a whole group to discuss progress and coordinate activities.  A distribution list was established for quick email blasts.  
Travel
  • organize travel 
On launch day we needed to get almost 30 people from Garden City Collegiate, Winnipeg, to Morden, Manitoba - a total of about 140 km.   

Launch control

  • Create the launch checklist
  • ensure that the checklist is followed
  • control the launch procedures
  • update and modify the launch checklist as needed 

The checklist was created in coordination with the various teams and was further modified and edited at our complete dress rehearsal, Wednesday April 22.
